RELIGIOUS FREEDOM VICTORIES
Here is a quick sampling:
Louisiana State University
- "Louisiana State University (LSU) has granted official recognition to the Muslim Students Association (MSA) after the group was denied recognition for a year and a half for refusing to accept limits on its rights to religious liberty and free association."
UNC-Chapel Hill
- "March 7, 2005—Late last week, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s (UNC’s) attempt to prevent a Christian fraternity from choosing its members based on religious belief. U.S. District Judge Frank W. Bullock of the Middle District of North Carolina found that UNC’s application of its expansive nondiscrimination policy 'raises significant constitutional concerns and could be violative of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.'"
- "Washburn University's Board of Regents voted . . . to amend its Student Organization Policy to no longer require the Christian Legal Society (CLS) chapter and other recognized religious groups to abide by the university's standard Nondiscrimination Policy."
- "Ohio State University agreed . . . it could not require the Christian Legal Society (CLS) chapter at its Michael E. Moritz College of Law and other campus religious groups to abide by the University's so-called Nondiscrimination Policy. The policy would have forced the CLS chapter, and other campus religious groups, to accept members and officers who reject their Christian beliefs."
- "After an extended legal dispute, the University of Iowa . . . agreed to recognize a Christian Legal Society Law Student Ministries Chapter while allowing it to retain its religious identity."
